Shree Jivanbhai's Legacy

Shree Jivanbhai who was born in Ranavan, India and receive minimal schooling.  Despite this, he ‘self taught’ himself and much of his intellectual sustenance was drawn from the Bhagavad Gita. Over and over again, whether in conversation or in debate, the influence of Bhagavad Gita, Indian philosophy and religious mysticism on him was clearly noticeable.

He first came across Indian philosophy and religion as a very young child observing his father undergo religious rituals, prayers and poojas.  As he grew older, all what he had learnt sparked his interest in Vedic thoughts and soon he was occupied with Sanskrit, reading the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.  It was clear from his actions and the reiteration of the ‘Three Cardinal Virtues’ from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad: damyata (restraint), datta (charity) and dayadhvam (compassion), that not only did he understand them but that he was always ready to put them into practice.  But it was the Bhagavad Gita that evidently made a more permanent imprint on Shree Jivanbhai's mind and character.  The tolerance preached by the Gita was echoed throughout his entire life as he lived his life with a great sense of urgency and relevance. Turbulent peace-seeking days had opened the doors for alternative thinking and Indian spiritual thoughts and the serenity of such transcendental thoughts had a huge influence on the Shree Jivanbhai’s life. Words like dharma and karma brought a totally new meaning to his life.

The precious commodity of the spiritual gems of the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and India's other literary jewels continued to shine a light throughout on Shree Jivanbhai’s deeds, thoughts and action and allowed him to walk a path of freedom from all anxieties.

Shree Jivanbhai left behind a ‘Rich legacy’ and fond memories of his love, deeds, kindness, wisdom  and service to humanity.  We will endeavour to follow his principles, ideology, words of wisdom and above all try and put into practice what he has taught us.
